Sam Abraham – Alleged wife and lover Cyanide Murder Latest Update

$
0
0

Arun Kamalasanan and Sofia Sam are accused of killing Sofia’s husband Sam Abraham by pouring cyanide-laced orange juice down his throat while he slept in his Epping home in October 2015.

Melbourne Magistrates court has taken up Sam Abraham murder case for committal hearing on 26th and 27th June 2017.  A committal hearing is where a magistrate will hear evidence of the prosecution and decide whether a properly instructed jury would convict the accused. This is the last hearing a matter will have at the magistrate’s court before it proceeds to a higher jurisdiction.

Sofia Sam and her friend Arun Kamalasanan are charged with poisoning Sofia’s husband Sam Abraham to death. Arun Kamasanan is also charged for attempting to murder Sam inside his car at the Lalor train station in July 2015.

A grieving wife’s final good bye

On 26th and 27th June, during the committal hearing, the prosecution has produced many witnesses and experts including one of Arun Kamalasan’s housemate, toxicologists and forensic experts to give evidence. Both Sofia and Arun were present at the court.

Arun Kamalasanan

It’s also alleged a balaclava-clad Kamalasanan unsuccessfully tried to murder Mr Abraham in July 2015 at the Lalor train station car park. Sam Abraham made a complaint to the Police after the incident, and also handed over a Balaclava belonging to the attacker, which he managed to get hold of.  Arun’s former housemate, Aji Parameswaren, told the court that he has seen a similar Balaclava with Arun around that time.  He also testified that Sofia came to meet Arun at their flat in St Kilda, few days after Arun arrived in Australia. The court also heard that Kamalasanan joked to Aji Parameswaren that killing someone was “easy to do”.

At the time of the attempted murder at the Lalor station car park, Kamalasanan was working as a cleaner at a Mercedes-Benz dealership. It was noted that he did not go for work the day after the incident, claiming that he had hurt himself at work.

According to the toxicology report produced in the court, high level of cyanide and a dose of sedative drug was found in Sam’s blood and liver. It was likely to have been ingested rather than inhaled.

A photograph of a purple cup with orange juice at the crime scene was also presented to the court. The police did not seize any objects from the crime scene at that time. The Court was also told that the Police did not find any unusual stains on the bed or signs of a hurried clean-up. The criminal investigation team was not called to the scene after the alleged murder.

Sam and Wife at the car dealer after buying a brand new car

Both Sofia Sam and Arun Kamalasanan pleaded not guilty to the charges at the Melbourne Magistrates Court. The magistrate ordered both accused to stand trial at the Supreme Court.

After the two day committal hearing at the Magistrates court, the directions hearing took place at the Supreme Court on 28th June 2017 .  A directions hearing is a short court appearance where orders are made about what should happen next in a case. The directions hearing set 8th November 2017 for the trials to begin. Court has also ordered the prosecution to present the complete evidences by 16th of August. A pre-trial directions hearing will be held at the Supreme Court on 31st October 2017. A Pre-trial directions hearing is for resolving timetabling issues, including the listing of hearing dates and setting the due dates for all Court documents.

The Judicial remand of the accused were also extended.

Proposed changes to Australian Citizenship laws

The federal government has proposed changes to three areas of Australian Citizenship which are:  a new residence requirement; a new process for determining an applicant’s integration into the community; and changes to the citizenship test.

Change in residence requirement

Currently, applicants for citizenship need to be resident in Australia for four years, out of which only one year needs to be a permanent resident. Under the proposed changes applicants need to be permanent residents for four years before applying for Australian citizenship.

Testing integration

Applicants will have to show in their written application who well they integrated in Australia through participation in work, Community activities and schooling for children. An English test also will be introduced.

The citizenship test

A new Citizenship test will be introduced with questions which will better assess applicant’s understanding of, and commitment to, shared values and responsibilities.  A person will be able to sit the test a maximum of three times.

Cheating on the test will lead to automatic failure: the implication seems to be it will not be possible to ever sit the test again.

The abduction and molestation of Malayalam movie industry’s popular actress in Kochi, February this year was a perfect example of the nexus between criminals and the stars of Malayalam filmdom. The fingers were pointed at some of the industry’s most popular figures. But the public don’t expect the real culprits to be caught – as they will be protected by the corrupt police department and the equally corrupt politicians.

Dileep with first wife Manju warrier in traditional Kerala dress

The trouble started for the victim (We will call her Miss B), when she intervened in the marital troubles of Malayalam superstar Dileep and his ex-wife Manju warrier.  Miss B informed Manju Warrier about the ongoing romance between Kavya Madhavan and Dileep during an overseas stage show trip. This eventually resulted in divorce for Dileep and Manju. As a revenge Dileep ensured that Miss B is not considered for any movie roles in Malayalam film industry. The actress had to look for roles in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies.

Manju Warrier a highly celebrated actress returned to acting and carved a place for her again which she left after marrying Dileep at the peak of her career. Dileep was an upcoming actor when he married Manju, whose acting talents are not matched by any one in Malluwood.

Kavya with first husband Nishal Chandra

In February 2009, Kavya married Nishal Chandra a bank employee in the middle east. It was an arranged marriage. Kavya was to end her acting career and move to Kuwait to be with her husband. But only a few months later Kavya was back in Kerala and she never returned to Kuwait. It was in July 2010 that she filed for divorce, which was granted in May 2011 before a family court.

Dileep and Kavya Madhavan got married in Kochi on 25th November 2016 amidst a gathering of select guests. The wedding came as a big surprise to everyone as even the guests were informed only hours in advance.

Dileep marries Kavya Madhavan

Soon after the wedding, Dileep told the waiting media, “Kavya was not the reason for whatever problems that happened in my family. So I decided if I were going to get married, I will marry someone who was made a scapegoat for my problems… In the last couple of days, I discussed with my family and daughter about this wedding. And today I am marrying Kavya with their full backing.”

The abduction and Molestation of the actress

Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the incident was once a personal driver of Malayalam actor Mukesh and was close to Dileep and Kavya. He is also alleged to have a supplier of drugs to the movie elite. A gang under the leadership of Pulsar Suni followed Miss B in a van while she was returning from a shoot at Thrissur and intercepted her near the Nedumbaserry International Airport and took her hostage. The Gang molested her and shot her pictures and videos after making her perform sex acts with a smiling face.

Similar incidents have happened in Malayalam industry many times before. But the victims always preferred to keep quiet and paid the ransom to protect their dignity. But this time Miss B decided to lodge a police complaint which her attackers and the people behind it never expected. Producer Suresh Kumar said that his wife, actress Menaka, had escaped an abduction bid involving Sunil five years ago. A recently married Malayalam actress was also a victim of Sunil last year, but the incident was suppressed.

The Police registered an FIR against the accused for abduction, rape, criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation. Even from the early stages the investigating team suspected that some in the industry may have helped him escape after the crime as Sunil has strong connection with some of the key figures in the industry.

Dileep’s ex-wife, Manju Warrier stepped in to extend support for Miss B. She was also instrumental in starting an organisation for female actresses of the industry.

Last week Dileep and his director friend Nadirshah were questioned for 12 hours by the Police in view of fresh revelations in the abduction and assault case.

“I am very confident… the investigation is progressing very well; I want the truth to be revealed” Dileep told Media soon after the interrogation.

Pulsar Suni was questioned again and revealed to the Police that he had passed on the microchip containing the photos and video recording of Miss B’s assault to someone in Kavya Madhavan’s textile shop “ Lakshya” in Kochi.

The Police searched Kavya’s Lakshya for evidence and also wants to question her parents in relation to the matter.

Who is the real culprit? Only the time will tell. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Media interrogation based on speculation is not the way forward. Everyone including celebrities have a right for privacy and dragging the names to an unproven case is a criminal offense. Considering how corrupt Kerala’s Police department and politicians are; the real force behind the whole episode may never come to light.
